December 1, 2017 - With much activity and service work to keep this group of youth busy within our congregation, there appears little to slow them down. Since the start of the school year this fall, the LYF have committed their time, planned and placed into action several key events; a bi-annual "Roadside Cleanup" event, the All-Hallows "Trunk or Treat" & “Game Night” event, hosted a youth "Lock-in" night, a "Thanksgiving Pie Bake Sale", held their annual election of officers, took a turn baking “Christmas Cookies" for Sunday morning snacks after church during the holiday, creative involvement in developing their own LYF badging & tee-shirts for organized youth events, offered time in helping the Board of Education with the Children's Christmas Program - as well seeing several participate in the program themselves, put "snack bags" together for the kids, spear-headed the “Christmas Decorating” event at our Church, and committed all other available time to the study of God's Word. All this done while being quite visible during Sunday morning Worship with continued Acolyte and Ushering duties. The LYF teens thank those in our congregational who’ve recognized that activity and continue to support their efforts in ways that encourage and support them. Their mission is our mission. Please pray for its sustainability, growth and success.
November 5, 2017 - The LYF hosted their annual “Trunk or Treat” event for families and kids of all ages. The event was held on Friday evening, October 27th. The congregation was invited to take part by lending a helping hand in decorating their vehicle trunks or pickup beds for the kids. The kids traversed their way through a candy collecting extravaganza playing games and collecting treats along the way!
An equally fun time was held soon after with the LYF "Lock-in". Much fun, fellowship and food was shared throughout the evening into the night. The LYF from both St. John and Bethlehem took part. Several friends of our youth were also included.
October 1, 2017 - With the arrival of late summer comes the inauguration of a new school year. We also begin to see the reformation process beginning for our LYF group here at St. John. It is with immediate observation, by our newest LYF leadership volunteers, to have found energy and helpful exuberance fully represented in this group of LYF members. The experience and helpful attitude shared by several seasoned LYF members are an encouragement to the adult sponsors, and a wonderful example for the younger LYF members moving forward.
All members of St. John should heartily enjoy and appreciate the active participation our youth find in their congregational engagement. For some, there may be seen but brief moments of visual acknowledgment. However, behind the scenes there are plans being made, preparations accomplished, work performed, follow-up conversations held, and throughout – sprinklings of group hesitation on a variation of expected success.
The LYF sponsors ask all members to be mindful of our youth and their activities. Provide them feedback. Get to know them. If you don’t know their name, ask them. Keep them in your prayers and with God’s help, encourage them to succeed with your ongoing support in all ways pleasing to Him. In short, be there for them. And, if they belong to you, bring them to church on Sunday so they can be there for the rest of us.
Below is a list of forthcoming LYF activities currently in the works for October. The LYF would like to remind everyone to drive safely home from church always, but especially on Sunday, October 8th as the LYF will begin combing the roadside near St. John with their bi-annual, roadside-cleanup event. In your wave of encouragement, pray for God’s constant protection when driving by.
